Backyard Sports Cares Merges with MVP Basketball Camp

Posted on

White Plains, NY (November 8, 2020) – Backyard Sports Cares (BYSC), the leading provider of community team sports programming for kids of all ages in Westchester, and MVP Basketball Camp (MVP), the premier youth summer basketball camp in Westchester, today announced the merger of the two non-profit organizations.  As part of the combination, long-time MVP Executive Director Noel Muyskens, who recently announced his retirement, will be joining the Backyard Sports Cares Board of Directors.

Since its inception in 1994, more than 25,000 children have attended MVP basketball camp and more than 7,500 have received full scholarships.  As part of its mission, MVP guarantees that no deserving child is ever turned away simply due to an inability to afford camp tuition.

“MVP will continue to run as its own standalone camp,” said BYSC Executive Director Danny Bernstein. “Our responsibility is to be stewards of the culture and values that MVP built over 25 years and to always be mindful of the camp’s original mission.”

Ensuring that the culture remains unchanged will be made easier with the help of veteran staffer John Nemsick who has agreed to remain with the camp as its director.  “I’m grateful and honored to be the director of the camp I love and believe in, and I’m really excited to have Backyard Sports Cares as a partner,” said Nemsick. “Together, we hope to provide more sports opportunities to the kids, families and communities that hunger for them.”

About Backyard Sports Cares

Backyard Sports Cares (BYSC) is the nonprofit 501(c)(3) division of Backyard Sports, the leading provider of community team sports programs for kids of all ages in Westchester County. Established in 2005, Backyard Sports is committed to replacing today’s “win at all costs” mentality of youth sports with an approach that promotes increased self-confidence and a lifetime love of sports while maximizing the athletic potential of each participant. Backyard Sports Cares was created to bring these ideas to children who have limited access to traditional youth sports programs, including children with special needs.
