On January 18, 2017, Danny Bernstein, executive director, Backyard Sports Cares (BYSC) and Linda Breton of BYSC, attended a reception at the Journal News office in White Plains for recipients of grant funding from the Gannett Foundation.  Backyard Sports Cares was one of only four grantees from a field of 75 applicants.

The Gannett Foundation supports local organizations in communities served by Gannett Co., Inc. The foundation’s community action grant prioritizes education and neighborhood improvement, economic development, youth development, community problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation, and cultural enrichment.

George Troyano, publisher of the Journal News, presented the awards and thanked each organization for its contribution to the quality of life in their communities.  BYSC will use the $5,000 Gannett grant to support the BYSC Soccer League during its 2016-17 season.
