It all started three years ago with a phone call to Suzanne Lasser at Eastview Middle School in White Plains who had recently joined the school as its assistant principal.  Would she be interested in offering lacrosse as an after school program, we asked.  Well of course, she responded, and a new program was born.

Eastview is the rare middle school serving 6th grade students only, which actually works out well for our program.  Each year, a whole new group of kids joins us for an introduction to a sport that can be difficult to learn, and most of the kids have never played.  Without “veterans” of the program, the boys and girls all seem more willing to take chances, make mistakes, and improve each week.

Adding to the fun this year is a new group of coaches from the Iona College Women’s Lacrosse team.  While playing in a charity golf tournament for Iona College sports teams last spring, we were fortunate enough to meet their head coach, Lauren Kahn.  When we told her about BYSC and our mission, she quickly offered to provide coaches from her team.  So who knows, a future captain of the Iona College Lacrosse team might be running around the fields at Eastview Middle School this fall!
