There’s a new garden outside Jefferson Elementary School in New Rochelle. It was built by parents, school staff, children and volunteers and it epitomizes the spirit of our newest venture, the Puentes (which means bridges in Spanish) after school program. Created with our longtime partner, Jefferson Elementary, the program brings together children from Jefferson as well as youngsters and volunteers from other Westchester communities. There are already children and families from Scarsdale participating. New friendships are forged as 40 children get together twice a week to participate in a range of activities: Spanish music and dance; gardening and, of course, sports.
