BYSC Board President & Assistant Athletic Director, Westchester Community College
After more than 30 years in the corporate world, Henry Chapman took a leap and decided to pursue something he was more passionate about. As a lifelong athlete, it was natural he would look to sports, and that’s where he found his new professional and volunteer missions.
“I’ve always felt that athletic fields and courts are great places to learn many of life’s most important lessons: how to deal with stress and anxiety, become fit, engage and connect with people from all different socio-economic backgrounds and cultures, and get along with people you may not like, for the sake of a team.”
When Henry participated in Volunteer New York’s Board Speed Dating event, he met BYSC’s Linda Breton and Danny Bernstein, and the connection was immediate. He was elected to join their Board of Directors in 2016 and was elected its President in 2018.
“Backyard Sports Cares is built on the core belief that high-quality sports programs can change lives and have an enduring impact on communities,” said Executive Director Danny Bernstein. “Henry gets that, and we’re so thrilled to have such a passionate, driven leader on our team.”
Henry sees “a treasure trove of potential” for BYSC and is excited to help the organization grow and increase its impact. “We’ve got so much wonderful brain power on our Board. And our members are not only really smart, but some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Moreover, our Board members all feel an intense connection to the mission. I couldn’t be luckier.”
