In late November, 20 Mamaroneck High School Backyard Sports Cares Community Club volunteers teamed up with the Mamaroneck public school SEPTA to participate in the Turkey Trot walk/run at Harbor Island. It was a huge success, raising more than $600 to help fund special needs sports programs for the district.
MHS students completed the mile with a handful of children with a variety of special needs. It was great for returning volunteers to reunite with children they had helped in the past, and for new members to meet the children. Even though it was a bone-chilling day, it was certainly heartwarming to help the children cross the finish line!
Our MHS club has over 40 members helping to raise funds and work directly with children in the Mamaroneck school district. This winter, we will be starting a USTA backed “Quick Start” tennis program on Friday afternoons at Central School for special needs kids in our area.
