With the help of a generous endowment from the Elmwood Foundation, BYSC, in partnership with eight local elementary schools and community organizations in underserved Westchester and Bronx communities launched a new soccer league(BYSSL) giving nearly 200 fourth and fifth graders a chance to play in a competitive soccer league. For some, it is their first match play experience.
Boys and girls, aged 9-11 engage in weekly soccer practice at their home schools and come out on Saturday mornings to Purchase College for competitive play.
This program has broader social implications, forging stronger bonds with not only the players but with parents and local school teachers.
