Allison, Ben, Samantha (17), Jacob (14) and Rebecca (11) all found their way to Backyard Sports Cares through separate, yet equally meaningful paths. “Whenever we are looking for a meaningful way to give, Backyard Sports Cares is always there to connect us to amazing opportunities,” says Allison.
Allison chairs the Family Mitzvah Corps group at Westchester Reform Temple and has partnered with Backyard Sports Cares to throw a Halloween Party for the kids at the Slater Center in White Plains. The WRT community brought pizza, treats, games and crafts for a day of fun on the Slater Center playground. Rebecca and her friends loved attending and can’t wait for the next party that is planned for the spring.
BYSC has helped Samantha and her group launch their mentor to mentee program they created in her Entrepreneurship class at Scarsdale High School.
Backyard Sports Cares helped connect Jake and 4 friends to the Youth Community Outreach Program (YCOP) in Mount Vernon. They completed their bar mitzvah project there where they visited weekly to play sports and help with homework during their after school program. When YCOP needed help with a holiday toy drive, they contacted the Friedland Family and within a week, Jake and his friends collected over 200 gifts for the kids there.
Ben has worked with BYSC on a variety of projects throughout the years, most recently raising funds to help support playgrounds in underserved areas of Westchester with new basketball hoops and soccer goals. Ben recently joined the BYSC board because of its, “hyperlocal focus and ability to bring kids from all types of backgrounds together through the uniquely unifying power of sports.”
The Friedland Family is so thankful for all that BYSC does and looks forward to more continued involvement in the future.
