In a collaborative effort with local Special Education PTA’s(SEPTA’s), Backyard Sports Cares has taken its flagship Special Needs Plus Soccer Program to Pelham and Mamaroneck expanding its reach while helping to forge new friendships and understanding in their communities. On any given Friday, over a dozen volunteers from Pelham and Mamaroneck work as “peer mentors” to help teach soccer skills and build friendships. Patty Wolff, President of Larchmont/Mamaroneck SEPTA, whose child participates calls it “miraculous” and” life changing” for these kids. “Finally there is a quality offering after school for my son just like his older brother. Spencer feels great after being here and it definitely helps build confidence and brings smiles not only to the kids, but to the volunteers and parents as well.”
