Following successful programs with the White Plains Youth Bureau and the Mary Blige Center, Penny Bauersfeld of Scarsdale recently completed a six-week “Learning to Look” art appreciation program with 12 elementary school-aged children from the Day Spring Center in Yonkers.
The program includes five weeks of afterschool study of various periods and artists. Children learn not just the historical perspective but are encouraged to express their own artistic voice in understanding the works. The program concludes with a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Children visited work by Degas, Monet, and Matisse and ended the trip with a visit to the Temple of Dendur. Backyard Sports hosted a picnic lunch at a park adjacent to the Met.
