Backyard Sports Cares has received a $10,000.00 grant from the Elmwood Foundation to create and run a recreational soccer league this coming spring for children in our area who do not have the financial means to participate in travel sports.
The Backyard Sports Soccer League (to be known as the BYSSL or “Bizzle”) will support a boys and girls league of 4th and 5th grade players of eight teams who will practice once a week at their home school and play Saturday league games at Purchase College. BYSC will provide all coaching, outfit the players in full uniforms, and provide referees for the league games. The season will include a six game schedule, playoffs, and a culminating soccer festival at the conclusion of the year.
The Elmwood Foundation was recently created by Bobbi Wittenberg and Jeff Ackerman, Directors Emeritus of Elmwood Day Camp in White Plains, NY. The foundation partners with individuals and organizations to create innovative programs for youth. It provides funding and support to mission driven programs.
