Backyard Sports has launched after school soccer clubs in four Westchester communities. The mission of the club is to give the children the opportunity to experience a team setting focused around the young players’ learning and love of soccer. Through a wide variety of challenging, yet fun activities and drills the children gain the skills of controlling a ball with their feet and working together as team. In addition, this club allows the children to work as a community and build their own set of ideals to help them become a better club team. While offering the children the tools and confidence to play the game, the Backyard Sports Soccer Club lessons will help the children apply this new knowledge in their schools and at home.
The new BYS Soccer Club has taken a gigantic step in the right direction. The club is offered at five different schools to children in second and third grade. These schools include:
- Port Chester Carver Center
- Mamaroneck Avenue School, Mamaroneck
- Mamaroneck Avenue School, White Plains
- Trinity Elementary School, New Rochelle
Even though the clubs are still fairly new and every child is developing at their own speed, the children are learning the skills and concepts necessary to perform well together and build new friendships. As they grow together as a team, the children uphold their rules and code of conduct through having fun as they scrimmage amongst each other. Soon they will be able to play against other schools in friendly matches and mini soccer tournaments within the BYS community, which will in turn build the program in other schools.
